Prem Nath And Associates is an award winning firm in the country – Prem Nath is known as an Iconic Indian Architect with a wide spectrum of work. Recently awarded the Baburao Mhatre Gold Medal 2019 during the virtual event of NATCON 2020 by the Indian Institution of Architects (IIA) with a Citation describing him as a Seminal Architect and a Trail Blazer in the field of Architecture.In recent years Ar Prem has won multiple awards incl. the recent “India’s Top Architects Award 2020” by Construction World Architect & Builder Awards, Virtual event presided by his excellency Hon Governor of Maharashtra Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Realty+ “Life Time Achievement of The Year 2020”, “DNA Sir J.J. Architecture Award’18” by Sir J.J. What’s your take on sustainability- how can right designing give a boost to sustainable environment?
‘Sustainability’ today is a fad, it’s in Vogue – if one honestly ask oneself, sustainability was a way of living in our ancient culture – pick up any historical design and one would find them most sustainable – it’s just that we had got deviated from these facts, we had got influenced from the so called ‘Modern’ designs and had started designing energy guzzlers and eco-dampening structures – Prem Nath & Associates have always been designing sustainable structures in a way keeping in mind the concern for the environment & consist of green features. I have been fortunate enough to be an Award winning Green Architect with Platinum Rated Green School Cygnus World School at Vadodara. The school Building is built with Fly ash – Waste Material, it consist of Green Vegetation, Installed Solar Panel on all secondary buildings in order to reduce the dependability on the resources of electricity. Also designed a Gold graded HUDCO Design award winning Township viz Residential Township for HP-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL), Bathinda.
The right sustainable designing enables multiple advantages to the project, be it in terms of healthy living for the occupants, damage control & improvement of mother earth and the environment, reduction in depletion of non-renewable resources and much more.
What do you see for the future of design?
The future totally depends on our economy – in the coming years basic amenities / essentials would be a primary need. No structure for show off but will be developed keeping in mind the value of money.
Today everyone is concerned about the increasing cost of utilities and daily needs, one is concerned regarding Less Income– but No one probably realized that we are going too Fast – there was No Stopping anywhere – fast travel, fast money, fast food, and so on –Life shall be difficult in the coming weeks & months, there is surely a greater Recession expected, income sources shall drastically reduce and so shall the other resources – it is definite that, one shall have to live with optimized resources due this pandemic situation; This is Nature’s way to tell us GO SLOW – LIVE MINIMAL.
Technology has always kept surprising us. We surely see a great improvement in technology too.
One moment, one person, one project that marked your career?
I was privileged to get the opportunity to work on celebrity homes for actors like Dharmendra and thus started my own practice what better encouragement would one get than this!.
This is the times when Interior designing was on its initial stage and quite few would go by this concept. I was rather fortunate to be the leading Designer among the first of the country, listed by “Who is Who” among 100 Interior Designers of the World. Indian’s First professional ASID Interior Designer licensed to practice designing in USA.
